Heavy Plate
BMG’s specialized Heavy Plate division is dedicated to supplying manufacturers and builders with steel plates whose thickness reaches or exceeds three inches.
A514 STEEL PLATE (Q&T)
A514 is a high-strength alloy steel plate classified as “Alloy Quenched & Tempered” (Q&T), meaning it is heat treated to improve its mechanical properties. It is available in several grades (B, E, F, H, Q, and S) and is suitable for applications that require high tensile strength, wear resistance, and impact toughness. It is commonly used in heavy structures and heavy equipment.
A514 is a high-strength alloy steel plate that undergoes quenching and tempering to optimize its mechanical properties. Tensile strength typically ranges from 690 MPa to 850 MPa depending on grade. This steel is used in demanding applications requiring high strength, particularly where impact and abrasion are present.
- High tensile strength (690 MPa – 850 MPa).
- Excellent impact toughness and abrasion resistance.
- Good performance in extreme temperature conditions.
- High wear resistance—ideal for heavy equipment and construction machinery.
- Good weldability, with appropriate precautions due to its high strength.
- Construction: high-strength structural components, cranes, platforms, and heavy parts.
- Mining: crushing equipment, loaders, and equipment exposed to high abrasion.
- Heavy equipment: blades, brake discs, and material handling equipment components.
- Rail: structural components requiring high wear and impact resistance.

A514 steel is a high-strength alloy ideal for applications requiring excellent impact toughness and abrasion resistance, such as heavy equipment, high-strength structures, and mining machinery. Its quenched-and-tempered condition improves tensile strength, toughness, and durability for demanding environments. While weldability is generally good, proper procedures should be followed to avoid distortion or cracking due to the steel’s high strength.
