Aluminum Plate and Sheet 5052-O

Aluminum 5052-O is an aluminum alloy known for its excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments and when exposed to salt water. The O temper (annealed) indicates the material has been heat treated to achieve low strength and high ductility, allowing it to be easily formed, welded, and machined. This alloy is widely used in applications requiring high workability and durability.

  • Composition: Aluminum alloy mainly containing magnesium and small amounts of chromium, providing excellent corrosion resistance and good weldability.
  • Properties: High corrosion resistance, especially in marine and salt-water environments. In the annealed condition, it is extremely malleable and easy to process, with moderate mechanical strength.
  • Heat treatment: The O temper is an annealed state, meaning it has been cooled after stress-relief processing to improve ductility and facilitate forming.
  • Applications: Suitable for forming processes such as extrusion and stamping, and for manufacturing components requiring high workability and corrosion resistance.
  • High formability: In the annealed condition, 5052-O is extremely easy to work, form, and machine.
  • Excellent corrosion resistance: Highly resistant, especially in marine and atmospheric environments, making it ideal for salt-water exposure.
  • Good weldability: Very easy to weld, making it a popular choice for assembled component fabrication.
  • Lightweight: Reduces the weight of structures and components without sacrificing durability and resistance.
  • Easy machining: Due to high ductility and low strength, it is ideal for cutting and forming processes.

Marine industry:

  • Applications: Boat hulls, ship parts, and marine structures exposed to salt water where corrosion resistance is essential.

Automotive industry:

  • Applications: Body components and internal vehicle structures requiring a corrosion-resistant, lightweight, and easy-to-process material.

Construction industry:

  • Applications: Building cladding, panels, doors, and window frames that must withstand varied environmental conditions and ensure long durability.

Transportation industry:

  • Applications: Parts for trucks, trailers, railcars, and other vehicles requiring corrosion resistance and formability.

Manufacturing industry:

  • Applications: Industrial components, machinery, and other products requiring forming and machining and that must resist humid or corrosive environments.
