HEAVY PLATE

BMG’s specialized Heavy Plate division is dedicated to supplying manufacturers and builders with steel plates whose thickness reaches or exceeds three inches.

ASTM A36 STRUCTURAL STEEL PLATE

ASTM A36 structural plate is a high-quality carbon steel commonly used in structural applications. It is one of the most widely used steels for steel structures because of its excellent combination of strength, ductility, and ease of fabrication. This material is suitable for a wide range of industrial and construction applications.

  • Low-carbon steel: ASTM A36 has a low carbon content, providing excellent ductility, formability, and weldability.
  • Structural performance: used for heavy structures such as bridges, buildings, and industrial machinery.
  • General-purpose use: suitable for machinery components, beams, columns, and other construction structures.
  • Available thicknesses: offered in a wide range, from 1/4" up to heavy plate 2" thick or more.
  • High weldability for strong welded joints.
  • Versatile use across multiple industries.
  • Excellent formability for cutting, bending, and fabrication.
  • Broad availability and cost-effective for structural applications.

Industries: construction, machinery manufacturing, transportation equipment, and civil engineering.

  • Bridge construction: beams and bridge components.
  • Buildings: columns and beams for buildings and industrial structures.
  • Machinery manufacturing: heavy structural components.
  • Platform/floor plates: high-strength floors and platforms in factories and industrial facilities.

ASTM A36 has equivalent grades in international standards, including:

  • ISO 630-2: Fe 360 B
  • EN 10025-2: S235JR
  • JIS G3101: SS400
  • DIN 17100: St37-2

ASTM A36 structural plate is a foundational material for heavy structures and industrial components. With its balanced strength, weldability, and formability, A36 is suitable for applications from bridge building to industrial machinery fabrication. Availability in heavy thicknesses (up to 2" and beyond) helps meet a broad range of project needs, making A36 an essential structural steel.
