Abrasion-Resistant Steel

BMG supplies abrasion-resistant steel in large and small quantities to companies and plants looking to extend component life and reduce equipment weight.

Abrasion-resistant steel, or AR steel, is a type of high-carbon alloy steel. It is designed to achieve hardness levels that are higher than those of low-carbon steel. Using wear-resistant steel is highly beneficial in situations where materials are exposed to impact or constant friction with abrasive substances.

It is important to note that hardness is generally achieved by sacrificing some toughness. For this reason, AR steel is ideal for environments where wear is a major issue, but it is not the best option for applications where structural toughness is the primary requirement.

Unlike many steels used in construction, AR steel is not governed by strict ASTM standards or specifications, and its chemical composition may vary among manufacturers. Hardness—measured in Brinell units—is the key factor engineers consider when selecting this type of material.

AR steel plate is extremely durable and wear resistant, making it ideal for protection against scratching and abrasion. This steel performs well in harsh conditions and also offers some resistance to impact. Ultimately, wear-resistant steel helps extend equipment life and reduce long-term costs.

Abrasion-resistant steel is widely used in sectors such as energy, industrial manufacturing, infrastructure, and others.
